Beginning Woodturning Classes
15 minutes outside of Grass Valley or Nevada City
Prior experience in woodturning is not required. The class is designed for beginners, those who are early in the process, or individuals with some experience but who can benefit from a "restart" in the woodturning journey.
The class will include discussion of equipment, tool selection and sharpening, tool control and safety at the lathe.
On day one in addition to the above, each student will be hands-on on their lathe with focus initially on spindle turning or "between center" turning and will finish the first day with typically 2-3 completed projects.
The second day will move to face turning--using a chuck to hold the wood so that it can be reversed to enable carving the interior of a bowl. Each will leave with one or more bowls they have turned.
All can anticipate leaving well grounded in sound basics, having had a good time, and with several completed projects. All will have a good exposure to what equipment is important for a beginner and in what priority, and being prepared to continue onward.
Beverages, and snacks included for both days. A home cooked lunch is provided for all. (any student with special food requirements are welcome to bring their own lunch).
